We manage the recruitment and selection processes for training schemes in General Practice, Dentistry, Psychology, Management Trainees, Nursing and Midwifery, and Pharmacy in Scotland along with recruitment to posts within NES.
Recruitment to training schemes takes place annually.
For medical specialties, recruitment to training schemes is often part of National UK wide recruitment, and NES work closely with health boards in Scotland and Deaneries across the UK to support this.
The NES Medicine Directorate is responsible for the commissioning and delivery of postgraduate medical education in Scotland.
This training is delivered in general practices and hospitals in the territorial health boards to standards set by the General Medical Council (GMC). The Medical Directorate's role is to oversee the training, manage the trainee's progress through the training programme, and ensure the training is delivered to the GMC standards.
